The Zildjian Project

I was inspired to pay homage to my years as a percussionist. Of all the manufacturing brands in the percussion world, the Avedis Zildjian Company has the most visually pleasing design by far. There are two separate ideas at play with this overarching project. One is a promotional poster set, advertising their L family and S family cymbals. For this, I pulled language from their product guide from 2021-2022 to guide me through the designs. Since all of their family cymbals are advertised with two descriptors, I really wanted to push the idea of a venn diagram made from Zildjian cymbals in at least one of the posters.

The other idea is a callback to the company's origin in 17th Century Turkey. I wanted to make something that would reference the story of Avedis Zildjian trying to forge gold, and making the best cymbal material; as well as honoring classic Turkish and Islamic design, which is baroque and celestial in nature. Again, the language is drawn from the '21-'22 product guide, as well as the history found on their website. Sticking with minimalistic design intended for users scrolling through Instagram, the text is short, catchy, and suitable for either “post” or “story” format.
