Music is Art is a nonprofit organization founded in 2003 by Goo Goo Dolls bassist and Buffalo resident, Robby Takac. The organization reached out to RIT to have the graphic design students come up with promotional posters for the 2024 Winter Youth Jazz Festival. These are my designs.
I was given the bands performing, location/time, the QR code, and the MIA logos. From there, I went through several iterations of concepts before landing on these two figures. The combination of the black and white color scheme, the strange trombone player, and the sleepy singer is undeniably jazzy and classy.
In order to have a cohesive set, I wanted to have two with the figures together and two with them apart, with a simple grid structure to unify the designs across each poster.
The final step of the process was to mock up some potential Instagram advertisements, with the secondary information in the caption, rather than on the photo posted.
